What is nanotechnology? Chemistry + technology
Nanotechnology involves the manipulation of objects on the atomic level. Products will be built with every atom in the right place, allowing materials to be lighter, stronger, smarter, cheaper, cleaner and more precise.
All that matters is how the atoms are arranged. For example when the carbon atoms in coal are rearranged we get diamond similarly when we rearrange the atoms in sand we can get silicon chips.
Old philosophies of creating things were to start with something big, and make it smaller. Nanoscience starts with something atomic and builds things with it. Nanoscience refers to the world as it works on the atomic or molecular scale, from one to several hundred nanometers.
One of the growing applications of nanotechnology is carbon nanotubes. Carbon nanotubes are pure-carbon cylinders. Incredibly, these ultra light tubes are 100 times stronger than steel. There are several methods by which a carbon nano tube can be synthsisized the only difference that we get is the diameter of the nanotube. These nanotubes are still yet to come the only known application is the synthesis of two gears which are meshed and are in working condition still now.
In our paper, we are explaining the different techniques for nanotube synthesis and their current status.
