In a production of components, multiple operations are required such as milling, facing, boring, drilling, etc. To eliminate such problems there is development of metal of manufacture known as transfer machine. Transfer machine are largely employed for lighter operation such as drilling, tapping reaming, spot facing, welding. Application of transfer machine lead to increase in productivity and reduce the no. of machine tools. It is used in the car and vehicle industry

It is defined as an automatic machine which indexes or transfers the work piece and its fixture from station to station while many operations are performed on it. It is combined material processing and material handling machine A transfer machine consists of several machining heads or unit fastened together by convening unit forming automation on large scale. The term “transfer” refers to the transfer of the job from machining station to the next it precedes trough the machining process involved.
